I decided to take the 92 exploder I just got out in the woods yesterday. I found a back road that realy didn't need four wheel drive and drove around 3 hours straight back into the woods. After we found a lake we turned around to head back and the damn motor quit. This was around 3pm with 2 feet of snow and -16C weather. My 10 year old son was with me. I screwed around trying to start it until the battery died. I wasn't dressed for a long hike back---just a coat and boots and by then we both were pretty cold--so I lit a fire to warm up before we started walking out. By dark my kid was crying from frozen toes and I was pretty scaed as I had major spine surgery years ago but still have very little stamina. After another fire we headed out again. After a few hours walking I couldn't go any farther, but off the road a bit was someones hunt camp---I had to break a window to get in; but i have no doubt it saved us. This morning we started out again and got to the highway just after one.
By the time we got back my wife was freaked and the cops were looking for us.
I measured how far back we were and we had to walk 22kms to the highway.
Lessons learned:
1--Tell the wife approximately where we are going.
2. Always have clothes ready for such a mishap.
3--Go with a friend with another vehicle--just in case.
4--Generally be prepared to hike out if necessary.
PS---It was the coil pack.
