First check engine light p0401 need help

Ok so i got a 01 sport trac with 111000 miles on it and got my first check engine light code p0401 egr gas restriction. I replaced the dpfe valve and it came back after 30 miles reset the light and bamm 30 miles later its on. anyone got any other ideas on what it can be thanks

Did you buy Ford/Motorcraft DPFE sensor? Hopefully so, aftermarket ones are inferior. Blow through the two hoses that attach to the sensor. It's possible one of the passages is stopped up. Check the hoses for cracks also.

I bought an after market cheapo sensor and I have around 600 miles on it and the cel light hasn't came on.

Chk your hoses for restrictions or cracks.

....and your vehicle has how many miles on the original?
You expect an elCheapo knock-off to last anywhere near that long? 600 miles is not much to judge it by. Read the DPFE threads on FTE diagnostic-code-p0401-insufficient-egr-flowand see what the consensus is on brands.

I have 63k and it's an 02 ST. I do think 600+ miles is good since everyone go has put a cheapo sensor won't go past 50 miles or in one case that I read on this forum 200 miles.

Well, okay. You're entitled to your opinion. I've dealt with these DPFE's quite a bit, mostly on the F150. Seldom have I seen an aftermarket fain in less than a few thousand miles. I hope yours lasts many many miles and you've saved a buck.

ok im stumped still getting the code i really need help what else could it be light comes back after 30 miles i tried blowing the lines out the two from the dpfe sensor going to the egr tube seem fine what else could it be

A defective DPFE?

Have you exchanged it to see if another one does the same thing? I was in the parts/fleet maintenance business for 33 years and have seen lots of defective new parts.

so i tested the egr valve with a vacum pump and it didnt stall the engine. I blew compressed air threw all the ports cleared the light after 18 miles light came back on. the next day while driving it went off and has stayed off any advice on that

Ok light is back on I went ahead a replaced the dpfe sensor again and cleared the light its back on again this is insaine what else could it be
