first gen...fuel gauge or sending unit???

The fuel gauge in my '94 X is not registering. How can I determine if the problem is in the gauge or with the sending unit? And yes there is gas in the tank.

Its not registering at the dash? or at the check valve? If your gas gauge isnt working, its more than likely got something to do with the float.
