heres my latest updates..

-finally installed rear truxxx lift
-window vent visors
-new intake (the filter has since been replaced with a k&n 4" universal)

sorry for the bad quality of the images, they were just quick ones from my cell phone.

Not my choice of rims but the truck looks great. It should have came that way from the factory.

Intake is just a piece-together universal kit. Had to take the dremel to the maf housing but that was the only modification needed.

lookin good

What kind of a lift do you have on there?

Miller...

what size piping did you use, and what degree bend is the piece coming off the TB ?. as how did you connect the vaccum line ?

i want to run custom piping from the airbox, to the TB to eliminate the intake baffles...

I know what you mean about not posting up much and doing other things. I haven't done anything to my Ex like I had planned this summer because I went on vaction the for last two weeks and spent most of my mod money there, but it was worth it!

Good to see you're up in the air some more, now go get some pics of her all dirty:D

also, in regards to you intake set up...

I would suggest you look into getting a heat shield, which im sure has crossed your mind, but your intake temps are probably getting pretty high when your idling... also just another thought for you, because i plan on doing this myself. Thermo wrap the intake pipe. the metal is obvisously much more heat sensitive then the rubber, and the thermo wrap should also help keeping IAT's down...

thus resulting in better power gains, then what you have already may have notcied...

-For us who have done the airbox mode, is it worth it to do a cold air intake (performance gains...etc)?
-Yes I do like how miller's intake looks, and myself I am considering doing that too.
-I am considering doing that thermo wrap intake too. Seems like it may be worth it.

Nate i think for you and I, it would benefit us to keep the factory airbox and run custom pipe to the TB...

1. we could eliminate the intake resonators on the factory tubing
2. smooth out the airflow into the TB
3. the airbox will act as a heat shield, vs having an exposed cone filter
4. thermo wrapping the piping will also help keep IAT's down, since metal is more heat sensitive then, the rubber tubing

my goal is to have a intake set up similar to a 4.7L V8 Tundra

Good point. With the airbox mod, I still need to replace my paper filter with a K&N, and unhook the battery to reset the computer.

get on it !!!!!!! lol

-Well...I went out to Auto Zone bought some tubing like what MillerTimeX17 has, except not the same kit as what he has.
-I tried to put it on, but it works until you get to the airbox. So tomorrow when Auto Zone opens I am heading there for either a coupler to finish the job to the airbox or I am getting MAF housing and the filter.
-The issue is where the tubing and airbox meet. The tubing comes in at a different angle and the tubing is smaller than the Airbox.
-So far...now I am inclined to go for the filter, and MAF housing and ditch my airbox. Not to sure I want that tubing to just sit next to the MAF and risk the tubing hitting the MAF.

what size piping did you buy ? and what angle elbow did you buy for the TB ?

how far off is the piping lining up with the airbox ???

The piping is 3". Only piping availible at auto zone. It is a 60 degree elbow angle. The piping will line up with the airbox if I slightly angle the TB pipe. The biggest problem is there is a gap between where the airbox and piping meet.

I'll go and get everything put back on the truck, so there is a picture of the intake to go off of.

yea that would be awesome, to have something to go off of...

Ok, I got some pictures.
Well here are some pictures... I didn't want to disconnect the vacuum line from the valve cover, so the old intake is just hanging there.

So first off... Here's the MAF

Next here's the set-up without the new intake in the airbox, see how its off

So I adjusted the angle at the TB, so now the piping is sitting comforatbly in the Airbox

Now here's the problem...There's a gap

Over-all I think its a good looking system...just got to get it to work. I'm thinking of going to the junkyard, buying a air intake of the same size, and cutting it up to make an adapater.

Nate, looking @ the pics, and comparing the intake tube, to the custom pipe. the factory tube looks like it may be 4'', cause it looks alot bigger...

i think a 90 degree elbow, with a short vaccum line piece, then a 15 degree bend may work ????

i would really like to keep the airbox if at all possible...

--With autozone's spectra intake you probably will have to buy the elbow piece then the vacuum line piece.
--I like your idea with the 90 degree elbow, then a 15 degree bend. Unfortuantely my local autozone store did not have a 90 degree piece in stock and they did not know when they'd get on in stock. So I bought the 60 degree, which works to a point. The 15 degree bend...don't know if you could find that. I don't recall seeing that.

--Yes, the factory tubing is much larger, there would be no doubt I would keep the factory tubing if it didn't have the resonators on it.

--What I'm thinking of, is cutting the piece of the new piping that goes to the airbox down slightly. Then from there getting a coupler (thats what I call it), making an adapter from an old air intake, combining the two to make sure the unit is sealed off, and using some hose clamps to keep it in place.

--What I don't want is the MAF to get damaged by the intake possible shifting.

--I'm heading to the junkyards tomorrow, and will be doing some more work to finish the intake. When I get finished with it, I'll post up some pictures.
