Back at Christmas, I left the X's ignition on overnight with the CD changer playing. The next morning I discovered that the battery was dead and once I jumped it, that the CD player didn't work. I couldn't even get the darn thing to eject the magazine.

After posting here in the audio forum, I realized that the changer was going to have to come out and perhaps be repaired. Seemed too adventurous for me, so I started saving my nickles and dimes to try and get enough money together to have it looked at. I have no idea what it might really cost, but I had this notion of well over $100. So, I've been crusing around listening to the radio and tapes for the last 4 months.

Well, on the way home from work tonight I got in the console to get a pen and as I waited in the bank drive thru started looking at the changer. When I got home I went at it with the screw gun and in 10 minutes had the changer on the kitchen table. As soon as I started taking the case off, "clink" a quater falls out and hits the floor. I took it back to the X and plugged it in, and sure enough it started playing. 25 minutes later (for some reason it always takes longer to put stuff back together) it was all back in place.

Now, near as I can recall, my 5 year old nephew was up in the drivers seat playing around on Christmas day. He must have pulled a quarter out of the coin holder and made a nice CD deposit for me (pun intended)! Anyway, I know this is kind of long, but it's my testimony to the value of giving it a shot and trying to work on a problem. I feel pretty good about it and I saved some money. Now all I have to do is talk my wife into the Safari rack :)

Good job! That's the problem with the internal changers, you can put anything flat in. At least you fixed it, for free!

Congrats on the easy fix!! Its always a great feeling when you get something done yourself.
Heres what the marketing people at Ford should have come up with for an Expo slogan.

"Ford Explorer: Turning everyday Joes into mechanics one truck at a time."
