Fixed that side airbag warning for good!

I had it with the 3-6 and the 3-7 errors on the air bag indicator.This morning I took both passenger and drivers side plug caps off and carefully opened them up to get at the 6.9 ohm 1/2watt 5% tolerance resistor andremoved it from the crimped terminals. Then I cut off the wires to the male plug and soldered the resistor to the wires, heat shrinked the job and stuffed it into the cable loom.
Now guess what!

No more error codes

just to let you know to fix it right you have to replace all the wires the salder will creat resistens and the air bag will not go off when it it soposed to.

I don't think that is true. A properly soldered joint shouldn't have any resistance.

How long have you had this "fix" up and running?

Yeah you may not get any codes but you've temporary bypassed it or jerry-rigged the Air bag system. I would have personally got it scanned to figure what was causing the fault and made the proper repairs whether it be to get new sensors or a module.

Yeah I saw that after I posted it.. I would have atleast tried to replace parts rather than wiring a resistor in place.

This is a common problem ( LFC 37 ) that nobody has resolved yet.

The 37 code should be for the passenger seat sensor. Did you by chance check the plug under the seat? I've seen people mistakingly kick the plug which could cause a bad connection. I've stapled the wire to the bottom of my seat after a few recommendations/searches. 36 Should be drivers seat sensor.

I have a '99 limited without side airbags, and have been fighting the 36 and 37 errors for a couple of months.
I assure you the problem is fixed and will not affect the airbag deployment for the rest of the system.
If you think about it, it's just a resistor there to fake the system to think the deployment element is OK. Just the integrity of a poorly designed connection placed in a position that is disturbed allot with the foot traffic I get back behind the seats.
If you were to visit the TSB's for the 36 and 37 issue you will find that there is a harness that you have to solder in place, which I think is a 6.9 ohm resistor with pig tails on it.

It's been a couple of days now with no errors.
I know it would have acted up yesterday with the activity I had, the yearly trip to the tree farm to get the X-mas tree. You know all the boots, coats and everything on the floor behind my seat.

Al, I have no clue why the resistor fix failed for you.

Reason would tell me the correct resistor on that loaction would have been the fix.

I have been thinking about this for some time now I am clueless.

It SHOULD work.

I have a mustang for the summer and just bought a 2000 explorer sport with the airbag light blinging, 7-3 i think. I will try some contact cleaner and electrical grease used for car lights,ect. and let known how it works out. As for the resister, has anyone tried radioshack and replaced theres? Ride America :fire: Also, any mod sugestions. Where should i start?
