I was wondering how you would go about getting flames out of your exhaust. I just got duals and my friend were talking about doing it to their cars.

Why would you do this to an explorer? it is actualy quite simple and there are a few different ways. First and foremost you need a functional sparkplug in the pipe. Obviously it needs to be powered by a coil. You will also need something to burn. With the exploders exhasut there isnt going to be enough without some mods. even just a decent cat back kit would be a good idea. Maybe a "test pipe". I do not condone use of a test pipe though as they are not only a massive polutant but they also are illegal in most areas. Obviously you will want to install a switch so this thing isnt on all the time. OK I deffinately dont see why you want this rice boy mod but to each theor own. Just remember flames are also illegal in many areas.

Autoloc makes a flame thrower kit.

I don't understand why you'd want it but there ya go. IMO it'll only cause trouble.

Flames are not a RiceBoy mod, but were here since the late 50's early 60's American Hot Rod scene. You are basicly taking a sparking device and putting it into the exhust, then running a line from a fuel source to just behind the ignitor. The fuel source can be propane or gas. The ignitor is usually a spark plug.
There wasn't a car show in California back in the 60's that didn't have aleast half a dozen cars with flame throwers in them. After the gas crises in the mid seventies, the low riders picked it up.

The Rice Boy mod would probably be the exhaust tips with the circle of LED lights to try to mimic flames but without the distance.

I am aware that some old muscle cars did this. What most people dont know is that there was rarely any aditional fuel. Often they would just tune the carb a little on the rich side. I call it a rice mod as it is all show and no go. I have NO IDEA why you would want this on an X though. Especialy when you think about where the exhaust exits. IMO flame exhaust is cheezy. It has left the muscle cars for the most part and found its way into handas and acuras across the country. When was the last time you saw this mod on a car that was actualy fast? A few have it but it is rare. Some actualy didnt put in any kit at all. Just happens to throw flames once in a while. (turbo'd cars mainly)

On a fuel injected car with cats you need to plumb a fuel line into the exhaust. Instead of doing it from your gas tank, you can get a small 1 gallon fuel cell and put it in your cargo area. You'd need to properly vent it. You also don't have to use gas, you can use another flammable liquid.

But yes it is illegal and dangerous.

I have seen a few Fuel injected cars do this with no external fuel source. It is much more involved though. One way you could do it is with a piggy back fuel computer. (safc for instance) again this would have you running rich for the desired effect. You can also often get it from EFI cars by pulling the cat. I know a few guys with cars that have done it. Its still lame though. not to mention illegal.

Yes, you can do it by pulling the cat, which is a big :nono: I'm sure I could do it very easily if I pulled my cat.

I have never seen a honda with flames. Thats not something i'm going to do was just interested in how it worked. Friend is putting on his older model cutlass this weekend.

i also want to do this

but what are you wanting to do with this flame kit? parked throw flames or while driving? parked isnt hard but while driving is where it gets dificult! the presure of the exaught will blow the flame out if you press on the gas to hard. i did it ghetto on my old 66impala just for kicks. just by unhooking two spark plugs and runing one to the rear tip with the spark plug. worked fine parked but wouldnt drive 10mph. i wouldnt do it while driving. but while parked is fine! im thinking about just buying the autoloc flame thower kit and just use the instructions. alls they sell you is instructions and a small relay think with a momentary switch to engage it.

be careful doing this, if you have cat. converters. you should use an alternate source of fuel.

there's a kit to buy, but its designed to run unused gas through engine by cutting off spark, and sending it out pipes where it hits plugs with seperate coils. it can be done, though.

ya im gonna buy the kit for my car as soon as i get my tax check back. my impala doesnt have cats just dual mufflers. i may even put it on my 84towncar just for kicks.LOL but why would it be a problem with cats? j/w

Cats try to burn off unused fuel. So there won't be any fuel left after them to burn off, and you'll be ruining them by sending that much raw fuel through them.

The way some older cars do it is to rev the engine, then switch the spark from the cylinders to the tailpipe. The engine is effectively off, but still making revolutions, and raw gas is going though the process without being burned until it hits the tailpipe.

This is for old carburated engines without cats. This mod shortens the life of these engines.

That's the way it was explained to me. Also, if a person does it that way, I guess it's a good idea to make DAMN sure there's no leaks in the exhaust system.

I thought about doing this to my Mercury, but I just don't see a lot of people doing this anymore. There must be a reason for that. The thought of my old car burning down makes me sick.

They actually did this on Trucks! yesterday. The kit is an easy install but doesn't work on vehicles with cats.

does anyone have the instructions to wire these up? ive thought about just using a throw switch inside the car for a ghetto style.LOL i know a normal switch wouldnt work since well if you know how far those sparks jump youll know thier is no way for that. trust me i tried.LOL
and i know that you dont just kill a spark plug. you also have to run it to the back tip. and its highly recomended that you extend the pipes at least a foot away from the bumper. a hole in the exaust pipe wont realy hurt anything because the flame wont jump that far.LOL i used to have it hooked up ghetto on my car. and if you rev the engine the preasure will just put the flame out. and the spark plug has to be within 3 inches of the tip. its more than just reving the engine you gotta rev and let off over and over.... unless your realy good and slightly hold the gas down to get it just right after the pipe is warmed up nice and hot to help ignite the gas. i think its realy cool. ilegal but hey dont we all do something ilegal every day?LOL wheither it be speeding/litering or what ever......... im sure everyone does something thats against the law every day.LOL but hey if your stupid enough to do it around a cop you deserve a ticket.......LOL

How about getting some instructions for a coil pack setup... use a relay to control the 12v to it, put a propane torch line into exhaust, spark plug 6" from line 2" from tip, and use it that way. I think it would work, so long as oxygen was mixed with the propane before it entered the pipe.
I still say its too risky though.

How many LOL's was that? Anyway if you cant figure out how to wire this on your own then its probably to risky for you to do.
