If your O/D light is flashing in your dash, this means you have an issue with your transmission, don't panic. The flashing O/D light is you "check engine" light for your transmission. Cheap scanners like the ones at most autoparts stores cannot pull these codes! If your overdrive light is flashing, stop by any transmission shop and they will 99% of the time pull the code for you for free. When you are at the transmission shop remember to:
1. Never leave your truck alone with them, they can come out to the parking lot with the scanner.
2. Stand there and watch the scanner, right down the codes yourself (P0741, P0742 Etc....). They just plug it in under your dash and start the truck.
3. Be nice and get a quote from them, they will most likely tell you that you need a $2000 rebuild, which may be the case but probably not likely unless you are having major issues.
4. If they tell you that you need to leave your truck with them or they need to pull it into the shop for this then just simply leave and tell em your going to the shop down the road.
5. Come back to this wonderful forum and post your code with your exact issues, year, make, model, milage, recent service, and anything else you may think could be helpful.
Will a moderator please sticky this to the top of this forum, granted some people dont read the stickys, it might save a lot of time and useless banter. Thank You
p.s. feel free to add or edit anything i missed.
