GET THE MEMORY CODE

flashing OD light = transmission is in LIMP mode, continuing to drive it could turn a simple problem into a new transmission needed

Limp mode means running at full line pressure, its meant to get you off the road and parked

Pull the code immediatley, do not continue to drive it, maybe drive it to the shop, but be nice to it :)

thanks it will go in tomorrow

so went to drop this thing off and the O/D light is not flashing any more. gona have the shop look at it anyway.

got the code pulled P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off will hopfully be fixed monday.

first thing to do is clear the code and see if it returns

also thanks for coming back in here and posting the code! This will help others who search the forum for flashing OD light, one of the possible causes... please keep us updated!!

Ok guys so my truck got looked at to day and it looks like the tourq converter and on top of that my rear springs are busted. I know what u guys are gona say get a second opinion and i already and heres the kicker the tranny shop quoted me more than ford for the tranny and my freinds a machanic and the don't do tranny work. I guess things could be worse. But thats the update.

I have the same problem with my 1999 xlt explorer automatic the overdrive light flashes sometimes after a small drive and other times after a long drive. The people I brought the explorer from can not seem to fix it. Mechanic seems to think that it is electric is this possible, or what can it be?

Ok so I thought that I would let you all know the deal here. Torqe converter is done along with a laundry list of things I have been puting off. So far about 250 miles and no problems but ford would not do the sticker because they could not clear the codes they said that I need to drive it so they clear out dose any one know what that is all about.

Shops with the correct equipment can reset the codes but can not make signals ready. I am in NJ with very strict engine codes readouts as far as emissions. Check Engine lite does not even have to be on, some codes will show "Not ready" until a driving cycle is completed. Normally if you drive the truck for 50 to 100 miles the codes will reset and go READY!. Your manual should have in it a "driving cycle" this normally includes 10 to 15 miles of city driving and 10 to 15 miles of highway driving. Some times you need three cold starts. Obviously, means running through the cycle, three times, after the engine is cold. Hopes this helps.

that makes sense seeing ma, is probably one of the striktest in the northeast. Thanx for the heads up on that
