flex plate/flywheel swap?

I own a 1993 XLT with an auto trans. As a back up, I'm looking into buying another engine. My question: The engine I'm looking at is a 91 with a stick trans. Can I remove the flywheel from the crank and fit my flexplate to it. Is the bolt pattern the same or are the crankshaft flanges different for auto and manual transmissions?
