Flomaster custom exaust (2.25 or 2.5) 50 or 40 series??Dual?

I had a quote from a muffler shop who will do a single rear exit stainless steel cat back exaust for 180, I want a good rumble like a v8, should I get the 40 series or 50 series? larger tubing(2.5) or 2.25? and for another 80 dollars he said he would do a dual exaust. Will this effect my v8 sound, because I heard running duals on a v6 sounds bad, please hel me.. thanks

I have a series 50 on my V6 with that noise reduction thing on it... I forget what they call it.. but it gives it a really mellow rumble at idle... and sounds pretty mean when you have it on the floor. best of all it doesnt drown out the stereo. Duels might sound bad... when I first put on my flowmaster It sounded like crap because I didnt have enough flow. sounded like a raspy fart. Eventually I put on a high flow cat and a KKM filter... and it sounds better now. But dont get me wrong.. my "quieter" 50 series puts out plenty of sound to turn heads.

Flowmaster Delta Series 50

I really like the Flowmaster Delta Series 50 muffler on my 95. Just enough sound to get attention, but not enough to attract unwanted attention! Does not sound like a V8 though. You need a V8 for that. If you really want a noticeable sound, go for the 40 series. If my truck was not a daily commuter, I would go for the 40.

I just got my Flowmaster muffler put on today and I love it. I ordered a 40 Series Delta Flow Series muffler with a offset inlet and dual outlets. I love it. It looks great with duals coming out the back and 3 inch chrome tips peeking two inches under the rear bumper. A bit loud but it sounds like my buddy's 5.0 Mustang. I will try to post pics as soon as I get my film developed.

I am going to put exhaust on soon and I am going to put 2.25 in tubing with a 40 Series Muffler. Now to get duals, can i run it from the headers or Do I have to run that out of the muffler? And with the cats should I get the hi-flow?? I dont know much about them so any help would be appreciated.

The 4.0L does not flow enough exhaust to make the 2.5 pipe effective. My recomendation for any '94 or earlier would be to run a SINGLE 2.25 high flow cat and a 50's series Flowmaster (if you want it loud go for the 40 series). No matter what exhaust you run, the engine will only have the v8 rumble under 2500 RPM, after that it will develope the v6 buzz. By the way, $180 for a stainless set up is damn cheap.

If you run true duals I think it will sound funny. But I think if you have a pipe on each side the spare tire will have to be removed (probably). At least that was the deal on my 94. I would stick with the single exaust.. but maybe go with the dual tips for appearance. Speaking of.. I need to get some chrome paint to get my pipes looking non rust like.

I just ordered a flowmaster cat-back system yesterday. Is it gonna sound like crap if I don't replace the cats too?? Thanks

Yep. Mine was gurgling/rasping until I removed the two cats and replaced it with 1 high flow. Maybe you will have better luck.. but that high flow made all the diffrence.. didnt cost much either. Im my opinion, the flowmasters will only be there for appearance (assuming you get a chrome tip) Until you get the cats. I tried getting the muffler first.. and was miserable because of the pathetic sounds my truck was making...

I dont know about that one... I had larger tubing put on at the same time. Which I suggest you do as well. Otherwise it will be a pain farther down the road. As long as you dont get stainless steel or anything, its not expensive. Shop around local shops and you should find a pretty cheap price. I think I only paid about $250 or so for my cat-back system installed. The guy was dirt cheap.. but I had it done in two trips so it cost me more. I just painted my pipes chrome and they look okay... not that anybody looks at them. Anyways... I suggest the larger tubing because if you make any other changes down the road a require larger tubing, you wont have to mess with enlarging everything... just dont go too big. And yes you can replace the 2 cats with just one. For some reason Ford felt that the exaust system wasnt restrictive enough for their tastes. My muffler guy wasnt sure about it either but looked into it and found that because of the age of the car it could be replaced with one... (also I think that fords 2 cats are supposed to function as 1)

To get the look of duals just get a dual exit Flowmaster 40 series muffler and from there run two pipes out the back? If I do that will it sound good and look good too? and maybe get some big block sound too?

I think the 50s sound pretty beefy.. and the 40s even more so. But they were a little too loud for my tastes... (my mom has some duel flowmasters on her vette and it sets off alarms and all sortsa stuff. ) but If you really want the duel look.. just run two pipes or on one pipe with a two pipe tip (which I suggest).... and it will be plenty loud.. trust me.

i am thinkin of running a 2.25 piping to a flowmaster 40 seires on my 93 but i want to replace my cats with one. where do i get a good high flow cat? will i pass emmisons?

I've been thinking about using a Dynomax muffler and y-piping dual exhaust from it. Anyone ever try this? Would 2.5 inch tubing be too much for this kind of setup or is 2.25 sufficient? Running a 2.5 inch single exhaust with a dummy second tip doesn't sound like a bad idea. By the way I have a '99 V6 OHV.

i have a 92 with a flowmaster 50 series welded on at the headers,single tip. bitg, let me know what u find out about those cat's, ive heard it makes a big difference in sound.
