Hey,

1) First off, I wanted to just settle for a flowmaster 40 from my 98 explorer 5.0L v8. But I was told that would not do anything for gas mileage or performance unless I got a cat back. So I was wondering if anyone knew if flowmaster makes a cat back kit for a 98 explorer v8? Or if there are any kits that also gives a nice sound.

2) I am about to order a MAC cold air intake for my ride. But this dude from pep boys told me it wont do anything because theres not enough cold air that flows in 98 explorers, so if I changed my air intake, it will decrease performance because it will suck in more hot air. Any suggestions from people who have a cold air intake?

3) I just spent over a grand putting in a nice sound system in the explorer. I got this ride for free from my uncle, but it has 127,000 miles on it. Im wondering if its worth it to invest in the cold air and muffler. I dont know how long this car will last, I just want to improve gas mileage and performance if possible.

Thanks.

flowmaster makes a cat back system, it uses the 50 series muffler. I have that muffler and I love it, and most people that hear it like it too.

The guy at pepboys doesn't know what he's talking about the cai does give a performance gain.

The v8 is a very reliable motor and trans. If you take care of it it has a lot of miles left in it.
