Flowmaster on a 95 XLT?

I bought the Ravin Muffler at Midas. Raven does have some sounds on their web site.

Thanks

That sounds sweet:D

we are not going to get much HP from a 4.0 with just exhaust set up. if you take your exhaust off at the y pipe so that its open from the manifold it is loud and you can feel i bit of boost from the low end. put those cats back on and that is where your restriction is. i have the flowmaster 40 series and it sounds good (i also have ypipe and dual 4" tips) but i can tclaim any real performance gains. but i cant dis annyone for wanting their ex to sound good. i love the way mine sounds.

to get the real gains you pretty much have to address the whole airflow fuel dilvery situation. withh kkm and exhaust i can say it feels stronger than stock - but nothing too radical and nothing to really speak of. i have now saved money on air filters by having a kkm for 3 years or more.

btw- i paid 250 for my exhaust. i think that i could have gotten it for less if i looked around.
good luck

Im going to order the Force II system later in the week, which im getting for $158! Im gonna check out a few of the shop's around my area for quote. One already gave me one at $60-$70(Midas), but i have a few more to call first! $70 sounds a bit to high, but then again im not to sure what the going rate is. Ive never had a muffler installed before.

When I first started researching the exhaust I was hoping for better performance then better sound, but after a lot reading I settled into the fact that sound was the only real thing I was going to get. I also had a liitle hope of better gas mileage, but that to was shattered, I still get no better than 11mpg. It is possible I have a little better take off than before, but that is probably my imagination brought on by the new sound. I realize that if I want performance I will get another Mustang, I can't even beat my wife off the line in her minivan in my Ex.

Jeff, your only getting 11mpg???

Im getting about 19 or 20 around town, and 22-23 on highway! I was hoping to get slightly better gas milege when i get the new Exhaust system put on.

One time, not to long ago, I got 13mpg, but the trip was all down hill.
I really only get 11 to 12 mpg. I even got that before the lift and bigger tires, but now I have an excuse for poor mileage.

C Jeff

That's funny. I have the 95 Explorer Expedition also and get about 11mpg with the 33" tires, Flowmaster Delta 50, Mobil 1 oil, and K&N Filter.
I got 18mpg before the lift and tires back in 97.

19-20 MPG city on a '95? Are you the alter-ego of aldive? I get 15 MPG at best, which I'm happy with.

back in the day 18-20. now-a-days 14-16. i have occassionally gotten 17-18 with over inflated tires and driving like 55.

is it just me or do you get worse mileage on the highway sometimes? if im going somewhere and i put the cruise on 65 i get about 16. if i cruise at 75 i get like 14.

The EX wasn't meant to get good gas milage at speeds much over 55. In most cases, but not all, the faster you drive the more gas you'll use.

I have found that I have a sweet spot, the only logic is the engine must be at an optimum torque/HP spot. At 65 I get around 14-15, at 74 I get 18-20 any faster and it goes back down but there is most definitely a sweet spot where all the planets align and the moon is in the perfect orbit and I can get 400 miles on a tank.

Actually on road trips I drive about 75 and get decent mileage. I don't get near 400 though. :D On our trips to camp I get about 325, but thats going into the mountains tends to lessen the miles per gallon. My friends dad has a big old F-350 diesel he uses to haul his horse trailers and he swears his best mileage is at 85.

I do very little highway driving, my daily trips to work & pre-school are on 2 lane roads and I rarely get over 50MPH so one would think I could get a little better that 11MPG. On the occasional Interstate trip if I keep it under 75MPH I still get the 11MPG, but anything over 75MPH I go down to 9 - 10 MPG.
