This probably has been posted somewhere in this site recently, but since I am new I will pop the question again. Is it worth it getting a flowmaster exhaust for an explorer, anyone have one? Any other cheap mods you can recommend?

Thanks,
Ryan

My recommendations on beginner mods, specifically intake and exhaust:

I recently installed the Flowmaster kit from Summit. It was a simple install. (pay attention to the instructions there may be some cutting involved)
It has a mellow sound, not too loud. Along with a noticeable power increase. I haven't tried any mileage checks. My engine rpm's used to be at 3000 rpm accellerating onto the highway, it now gets up to 3500-4000 rpms without any trouble. Overall the truck runs a lot smoother.

A definite must have in my book.

Welcome to the Board and good luck with your future mods.

i loved my flowmaster exhaust. Horsepower increase was definately there and sound was great. Here's the link to a sound clip from my exhaust.

I installed a 40 series Flowmaster exhaust and a K&N filter on my 93X. There was definately a horsepower increase because of easier air intake and exhaust. At 2000 rpm the ehaust is somewhat louder, due to some kind of resonating effect, but the sound is generally very good, without being too loud.

My next upgrade would be an MAF replacement. As I understand it, the first place to begin power improvements is in allowing more air in and more exhaust out of the engine. Fuel efficiency in the long term is more related to how gently you accelerate and brake. Although quick accelerations are costly in terms of fuel efficiency, they can be very useful at times--especially in passing situations.
