I drive my truck fairly hard, with the occasional tow, but most of it is just getting me to and from work. I already have a cold air intake, electric fan, Brown wire mod, removed roof rack, and a couple other things here and there. Anyways, I want to do new plugs and wires (130K miles) and change all the fluids in all the diff's and tranny etc. I always use 5W30 oil and change it regularly. My gas mileage has gone from 13 a year and a half ago, up to 17, and now is about 15 from just driving it around.

It's time for the new fluids anyways, so i figure this is the next step, but remember, i don't want the super thin only gas mileage idea stuff, i tow occasionaly, and it gets a LOT of city driving.

Awesome... I coulda figured that much from Aldive's truck description. What about weights? Same weights? Thicker?
Front Diff:?
Rear Diff:?
Transmision:?
Transfer Case:?
Fill in the ? with the weights. And yes, if it's not Amsoil, it'll be of another high quality synthetic.
Also, the manual states than an additive needs to be added to the rear diff, is this true? Or is this only for a limited slip?

cmon guys, what wieghts do ya put in all them things? Standard? Well, what is standard?

lol, yeah, thanks Mr. Celly. I was wondering why you guys were just going, amsoil.com and royal purple.com. Shoot, I was about to go valvoline.com and Penzoil.com. I mean, cmon!!

Anyways, What about that B&M Trick Shift stuff for the tranny, is it any good?

Well, I typed in "B&M" and got a lot of useless links.
I typed in "Trick Shift" and found a lot of broken trucks.
When searching for what to put in, I found Aldive, who is using Amsoil, but he's going for gas mileage, i'm going more for the towing/hard city driving aspect. This would therefore result in a difference in oil viscosities, depending on how extreme you take it.

THAT is why I asked the way I did. Also, I didn't find the capacities at first, but now I have found a downloadable Owners manual, which has it in there.
Don't insult me with the whole "use the search, dummy" response, i'm not THAT stupid. I build 'stangs, not explorers, so I'm not used to the 4X4 stuff. Maybe from now on i'll just post in the newbie section for ya instead.

Y'know, ya try to be nice and it gets you nowhere. Have a nice day.

I heard Sperm whale oil is the best for our Exs, I searched but could not get any info.
Pls help:)

I just finished doing my 98 and used quaker state 4x4 synthetic trans fluid for the transfer case and trans. It was the only fliud that met mercon V here. I also changed the filter since it was original and it shifts smooth now. I took the advise here and disconnect the line to the radator added a hose to a bucket, started the motor and let the old fluid pump out while adding new fluid to the dip stick tube. I plan to get the extra trans filter from summit as talked about here also.

I used regular 85/90 in the front axle and my rear diff is a limited slip so it needs 70/140 synthetic and a friction modifier. The tag will ID what you need on the rear. I plan to change the rear fluid but want to change the rear bearing while I am in there.

I would change the weights on the diff's as that could cause a problem. Just use a good synthetic.

Hope that helps
Scott
