if you want to save money, you can do what i did. Just wire the fogs up to the parking lights, so anytime you turn on your parking lights, the fogs will come on too. also they will stay on when you flip on your head lights, and if you want you could still wire a switch in there to turn them on and off.

all you have to do is get a factory harness, and switch. there should be plugs near the front of your truck for the fog lights, and if you take your radio bezel out, there should be a plug there for a factory switch for your fog lights.

Reviving this thread.
vroomzoomboom, are you saying there’s a short jumper harness from the wiring behind the dash to the fog light switch on the bezel?

there is a harness for the fog light switch behind the radio bezel. you will need to get a switch for it. you will also need the harness that will be behind the bumper beside the abs plug. that one will go from the fog light plug to the fog light.

Ok, great. I have the jumper harnesses from the factory plugs to the fog light housings so I’ll get a switch. Thanks.

I removed the radio bezel and I don’t see a fog light harness. The truck definitely has the harness behind the bumper for the fogs but where is the switch connection? I see one large blue 4 pin connector but it’s way to big for the fog light switch.

iirc it was about the size of the rest of the ones like the 4wd switch and wiper switch i think? been a bit, however. i think it looked like the rest of the connectors back there, however

Yeah. I removed the bezel from my 99 which has factory fogs and the wire connector is similar to those used on the rear wiper and defrost. In this 96, I don’t see one. There is a very large blue 4 pin connector that is not connected to anything behind the airbag but near the center of the truck. But I is probably twice as big as the fog light connector should be. Why would the factory frame harness have the wiring behind the bumper but nothing behind the dash?

if you follow the fog wiring under the truck does it lead anywhere?

Yeah. On the passenger side for example, as soon as it comes up behind the header panel it joins the big harness that runs across the core support right in front of the air box. That harness goes to all of the consumers on the passenger side inner fender. Washer, hvac fan, cruise motor. The harness for the relay box under the air box, where the fog light relays typically are mounted, comes out of this large harness. I’d have to assume the fog light wiring is going to that relay box.

I just pulled that relay box out and the tan/red and tan/orange that come from the fog light bulbs are in the relay box going to the 2 small relays at the rear of the box and there’s wires coming back out into the main harness.

^ The wiring diagram I have, shows both bulbs have a tan/orange wire, going to pin 5 of a single relay in the relay box.

Pin #2 of the same relay, should be light blue/black wire that goes to your switch. If you don't have this, simply add your own wire to relay pin 2, run it to a switch, then the other pole of the switch to any chassis ground point. Diagram attached.

That is not correct. Theres tan/orange from one side and tan/red from the other and each go to separate mini relays. Is your diagram for a 96 5.0 awd? There was a black/blue coming out of each relay, if I remember right. I’ll need to look again.

^ Does it matter? It is still just a matter of stringing the new wire if you can't find it or it isn't there.

But there are wires coming out of the relays into the main harness. I’d like to know where they terminate?

^ I realize that, but since nobody knows if the plug is not there behind the bezel, then either it's important enough to you to start pulling things apart, or just string the new wire. Just sayin', stringing a wire might take a half hour and this topic has been continuing since Tuesday...

If the fog lights are relatively bright, I have found that wiring them to the high beams is a both practical and effective.

Good luck, and drive safe.
