gawd, i'm still seeing plenty or people driving around in Exploders and Rangers and other Fords on Firestone Wilderness ATs.

i want to go up to these people and tap on their forehead, saying, "HELLO! FREE TIRES! GO TO THE DEALER!"

these people must be the oblivious sheep of the world who haven't heard about the two recalls, no doubt that a month after the curent program ends they will be whining that the never knew... since they share the road with me, i feel like doing them a favor and popping their tires.

Since my Explorer is not a daily driver and the fact that my dealer wants to put me on a 3 week waiting list and put on any tire he gets in, I feel it is better to wait for the Michelin LTX AT's to come off backorder and get what I really want on Ford's dime. The other possible reason is the up-front money if you go to a tire store. Some people do not have the money to tie up. So be carefull who you call sheep.

Oh one other thing. Ford said that not every Firestone plant made bad tires. Some of them were Ok, but were recalling all of them to cut down on confusion. My tires are made in the Canada plant and are close to being equal to the Goodyear tires install between 95 and 97. They also have only 11,000 miles on them and look just fine.

yeah im still driving on the firestones
I look at all the tires everytime I wash my car and check for any tread separation. And I try to always drive using 2 hands so that in case something does happen i have a better chance of controlling the vehicle. I am hoping on changing tires in the coming weeks but for us that are driving newer model explorers ford will just put us on a waiting list. They are doing the older ones first. So for alot of us its not our fault that we are still driving around on Firestones.

Why do some people get so upset about what other people do when it doesn't affect them in the least? Oh well, anyway, that's the only reason I didn't get mine replaced right away is the dealer didn't have any tires that I wanted in stock and there was a 6 week waiting list, and I didn't have the money to buy tires now and be paid back later. Then I found a dealer that had BFG AT's and got them put on lickity split.

a dealer put the bfg ats on????
they arent on the list of approved tires

I didn't even get a list of approved tires, I just got what they had, and they had bfg's, which I certainly won't complain about :D

yeah, im still on firestones too, the local tire shop is waiting for my one last goodyear tire to arrive then i get em changed. besides, not every firetone tire is gonna blow up - yeah theres a better chance of it happening than most other brands, so keep it on your mind, but lets not get too paranoid here.

Well I beg to differ Troy

As was said before...it does effect us whether we are in an Explorer, a VW, a Dodge....because I could be the one driving behind or alongside of the Explorer (Ranger, F150 etc.) that has the deathstones that seperate and well....you know what could happen next.....not just the rollover...but just that fact that there is lack of control and they could run into you....causing injury or death.... I am sorry.....but everyone has had ample time to replace these things....would you keep lighting gas heater in your home that was recalled? I hope not....just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it won't happen to the guy rollin down highway 1 at 70mph...

I have Winstons :)

Just got my $550 check from Ford today. Turned in my tires to Ford on the day after Memorial Day.

this isn't about the wilderness tires but

i thought ford wasn't using firestone anymore. i saw a new ford focus at the dealership with firestones on it. i didn't look at any of the others, just that the focus was at the end of the lot by the road and i was stopped at a red light. are they still using firestone for their cars?

BFGs ARE on the approved list!
check BFGs website
Dead Link Removed

im my opinion the best AT tire you can buy..

Doug

is it pretty much a consensus that the bfg long trail ats are the best tires on ford's replacements list? i have to choose a tire to put on my sister's 99 sport.

tose are the best onfords approved list.... but i would get the ats........ THAT LINK IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

so the ford dealership will put bfgoodrich all-terrain t/a ko's on my X

well, i hope that the people here, on this site are the informed ones and i can understand if your dealer has you on "da list", or if budgeting for replacements not on the ford list is a momentary setback, but at least y'all are working on it... didn't mean to suggest any of you are ignorant sheep unless you intentionally plan to keep those wilderslicks and never upgrade.

it only took about one week for my check to come from Ford, and some people here said they told the dealer the wife was afraid, or they needed the check right away to pay bills, and i know one goy locally who told the dealer he was going on a long road trip, and the dealers seem to have expidited the tires or check, sometimes its all how you ask.

i'm just happy to be rid of the firestones, they never handled or performed well IMHO anyway, but these new BFGs are SCHWEET! all tires should be this nice!

Dont even use the Ford dealer ship. Take your Firestones in , get your credit, and then go to a REAL tire store and get some BFG A/T kos
Im sure most towns should have a decent tire store? At least I hope so, maybe not but a drive to a big store could be worth it. Im spoiled in CA as I have over 50 stores withing my town to pick and choose from.

Discount Tire, Big-O, Sears, Costco, etc ,etc..

good luck

Doug

excellent idea
how much lift do you have BajaXplorer

I just have a TT, it rides a little rough though so I'm going to try and get some Bilsteins and poly bushings all the way around. If that doesnt work Im going to go back to stock height by turning the torsion bars back to stock(the 31's will still fit)

Eventually Id like to get some Bullseye 3" spindles
when I have and exta $400 laying around!

Some of us maybe can't get replacements

I've been waiting for weeks to get replacements from Ford. I checked last weekend, and I was still on page 22 of the list!!! I would like to stay with what Ford recommends, and can't find tires locally in my size, 255-70-16.

I called Sears yesterday and they told me they had nothing in my size now, and wouldn't get Wrangler RT/S until later this summer!!!

Do you have a suggestion???
