Hey guys,

New member here I got two quick questions. The first is how hard is it to replace the front bumper cover on a 2000 XLT, got into a little fender bender and need to replace it.

Secondly, and more importantly has anyone had problems with a really rough idle even sometimes dying on really cold days? If the temp is like 50 or below I have to stay on the gas or the engine will get real weak and choppy and sometimes die.

Any help on either one of these issues would be much appreciated!

Can't help you with the bumper cover.

But the bad running could be resolved with a new or cleaned IAC, Idle Air Controler. I had the same problem with mine. If you search for IAC you will find lots of info.

Oh yea, Welcome to the best Explorer Site in the world!

I agree with black magic, take off the iac and clean it out with carberator cleaner, if that doesn't work, buy a new one.

The front bumper cover is a cakewalk to replace. Unplug the fogs and remove the 4 bolts that hold the bumper to the frame. It took me a little over an hour to replace.

In Wisconsin, it finally got to 50 degrees. Even below zero it should be ok, just it will normally rev higher for a while until it warms the engine up.

Do you have the SOHC engine? If so, does is only run rough for the first five minutes?? If yes, have you had the intake manifold O-rings replaced under ONP 00M12?? Search for 00M12 and 01M01 for SOHC engine related problems that may be causing your trouble.

thanks but...

Thanks for the fast responses! The bumper cover advise seems pretty straight forward. But where exactly is the IAC and is it tough to take off? I'm kind of a newbie at car repair, but I'm really trying! Thanks for the advice guys!
