Okay, what is CEL?

Is there any feedback what so ever from the tranny to the EEC that would cause a check engine light?

Power flows thru the sel. all

time it is activated on the ground side of the circuit with a microswitch.

Hotwheels, if I was home with my Ex that is exactly what I would do, but since I am 3000 mile away in Norfolk, VA, I can't. Otherwise, you have the right idea.

#1 no cel= check eng. light.

and i aint laying in 2" of wet snow to do it......

Being in the Navy you would think I could figure out a damn acronym like that. Boy do I feel stupid!:)

no power=

valve body shifts to 4rth since there is no 3-4 stop selinoid. And no T.C. lockup.

Diff Whack Daddy Dont feel bad this

dumb jar head cant type worth a hoot either.

hey can we talk about this in chat?

Okay ALYZ1FLR, ley me run this pat you and see what you think.

The 70O-R4 does not have any input from an EEC to shift into overdrve(4th). That is controlled by the TV cable position. If I were to disconnect the 3-4 shift solenoid wiring and use the torque converter lockup wiring, which uses the same voltage, would I get an illuminated CEL or not?

Hotwheels I,m tellin ya I have done it.

Look at the diagram. It cant happen anyother way.

unlocked

No C.E.L.

:)

This may sound like the wrong idea but if and when i do this swap i will be switching to a full manual shift kit with reverse valvebody so that means no TV cable and lockup will only be there when i flip the switch...... no wireing problems and if the CEL comes on i will just pull the bulb out  (eh its a bush beater anyways)

No check engine light will ever come on

Because the a4ld is a non feed back transmission.;) The computer does not care if the transmission is slackin or not.

The CEL is helpful for other functios as well though. For instance, when you lay it on your side and the MAF gets gunked with oil, it will come on telling you it needs to be cleaned. Also, I thought about the manual valve body as well, but with that it caeses the tranny to run at 100% pressure at all times, thus reducing the life of the tranny by half.

Posting for a friend who is ford tech
I read the thread and only see two unanswered questions, 1-what is the resistance of the 3-4 shift solenoid and 2- would the check engine light come on if solenoid was left unplugged? The resistance of the 3-4 solenoid is 26-40ohms. The check engine light comes on if I leave the connector to the trans(3-4 shift and tcc) unplugged when swapping a trans, and ususally sets two codes. Sometimes it doesn't come on right away, but usually during the road test. The shift solenoids are constantly fed VPWR which in 94 should be 12v(battery voltage) the pcm controls the ground side of the circuit. This is from the 94 shop manual and memory so I am 99% sure this info is correct..
Hope this help's

I didn't think it waould be that easy!

Okay hotwheels, iagree with the pcm, or ecc, sending a ground as ALYZ1FLR diagram does show to contro the lockup. That is easy enough to fix by installing a second relay to switch it back to a 12V signal that the 700-R4 needs. Now ask your buddy what we need to do to bypass the 3-4 shift solenoid from illiminating the check engine light.

94 was the change over year.

ammeter resistance 0.5 on the proccesor switch side/ ecm side. Three four selinoid does not set a code.
