ford 9 inch, what spline?

how can you tell what spline you have in a ford 9 inch, without pulling it apart, heres a pic of my 9 inch. any help will be appreciated

im almost positive it was a 79 bronco

If that is the case, I am almost positive it is 31 spline.

does anybody recognize that rearend, i mean i havent seen many fully welded in the back like that?

After looking at your pic again, it is obvious that that 9" is a "non-banjo" type of 9", which means there is no way that it was factory in '79. The non-banjo is a less desirable axle than the banjo style 9".

I will have to take back my prediction that it is 31 spline, but I will have to leave this to those that know more about nines than I do.

edit: I am COMPLETELY backwards here. Yours IS a banjo style, and the other isn't.....................my goodness, I am WAY OFF TODAY!!!!

Oh, and about the welding in the back............if you mean how it is welded where most rears would have a diff cover, then yes, that is typical of all Ford 9"s.

why are they less desireable besides the fact that the axle shafts appear thinner and if not out of a 79 bronc , does anyone have any idea what it would have been in?

so since you were backwards does this mean that it is possible it is out of a 79 bronc and is a 31 spline?

31 spline, definatley a 31 spline.........Kmart sucks..........

Rainman, get it? Nevermind, if it's an EB, then it could be a 28. If it's a 78-79, it's a 31.
