These are the install instructions for the OEM Ford Explorer Running Boards, 2011 and up (I put these on my 2016). It is just illustrations, not the easiest thing to follow, but once one side is figured out and done, the other side takes no time at all.
These are for Ford Part #HB5Z-16450-AB
Helpful hint: Page 2, Step 1 shows a tool used to remove the threaded plastic lock pieces (not included) - I don't know what it's called but it's like a wide, flat screwdriver with a V-notch in the middle; it is SO worth buying, makes popping those damn pieces out with a minimum of F-bombs!
*Peter, I know you'll merge this post to where you think it ought to be - so many of the Running Board posts had a specific model year included and this applies to all 5th Gen Explorers so file it where you like*
