Anyone used one of the Ford Dealer remanufactured transmissions for their 96 or 97 5.0L Explorers? Know who Ford uses? Seem to have a good warranty. Have these transmissions been updated with better parts?

I have a 94 explorer that I replace the trans with a Ford rebuild, For the price I couldn't go wrong 3yr 36000 warranty and I don't have to touch it if it does fail. Ford has rebuiders that rebuild the transmissions for them and it is my understanding they do the necessary updates. 8,000 miles and no problems.

I can offer that "long ago" FORD authorized rebuilders met some pretty stringent standards. Today, as for the auto transmission rebuilds, if they are going to offer THAT warranty, I'd be comfortable... they are a little pricey, but I will bet they replace the parts that SHOULD be replaced (sprags etc) as a matter of course.

Thanks, Guys. I am not ready yet to replace the tranny on my 93 EB. But I know the day will come. And when it does, I have made up my mind I will stick with Ford's rebuilt unit. The warranty is great. And like most things in life, you get what you pay for!

What is the cost on the rebuilt trannys?

Hmmm, Might look into that if mine goes!

I paid 1200.00 for mine, have a friend that is a parts manager at the local dealership.
