Just bought a 2013 Ford Explorer XLT. Are the sync services free for 3 years or do we have to pay $60.00 a year? When I click on services tab in the car it says I have to sign up. I went to syncmyride.com and registered but they want 60 for a year. Thought this was included!

Join the Elite Explorers for $20 each year or try it out for $5 a month.

I was given 3 years of sync services for free. My account was created at the dealership, my salesperson just had me enter my email address and password and my account was activated.

My understanding is that it is free for 3 years, and when I signed up on SyncMyRide, I didn't see anything that indicated them wanting a price. My XLT is still in production so my VIN is not yet registered on the site, this could have something to do with it. Anyone who knows more feel free to chime in if I'm wrong.

On the website it said I had to purchase the service, when I clicked purchase there was only one option...12 months for $60.00

I think your dealership has to set it up for you when you take delivery, otherwise its a charge if you do it yourself off SMR website

Yes, that's right. Go to your dealer.
After a year you will get a notice.
Then do this:

Why do I need to renew my subscription* once a year?

Once a year, we will ask you to renew your complimentary subscription to
SYNC Services. There is no additional charge to renew your complimentary SYNC Services subscription.
This helps us understand whether you plan to continue using the service and provides us with an opportunity to keep our customer service records accurate.

That's strange. It said the same thing on the services tab when I bought my Explorer. When I signed up, it didn't say I had to pay. It showed it was free for 3 years and it had the expiration date of the services.

Hey, everyone!

Most dealerships create a SYNCMyRide.com account when you purchase a vehicle from them with SYNC or MyFord Touch. With that said, it's common for a second account to be created and the free subscription not be associated with it. SYNC Services is free for three years if you have MyFord Touch; we no longer offer this for Gen1 SYNC. Gen1 is now $60 a year.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Rebecca

Update:

Just want to thank Rebecca for all her help.

Checked with my dealer, they had made a sync my ride account for me and never told me about it. I had created my own account and the free services were linked to the account my dealer created. Called sync customer service and they were able to delete the account the dealer created and the services transferred over to my account!

Thanks to everyone who tried to help!

George
