Or, I guess I should say evidence of a leak. Awhile back I posted about head gaskets. A few people much smarter than me said it sounded more like a leak. Crawled under it a couple times, thought I saw some coolant. Yesterday I crawled under it again and there's definitely coolant dripping from somewhere. Can't find where. There's no sign of a leak under where I park, even with the fresh snow on the ground. My wife said she saw green drops down the road while she was out for a run, so I'm guessing it's just leaking while I'm driving? I looked around for something that looked like it was leaking and nothing. Hoses look good. Any sign I can find is about the middle of the engine and down. My first thought is water pump, but I don't know.
Without just taking stuff apart, is there an easier way to find it? If I can get my hands on a coolant system pressure tester will that help?

Towards the front of the engine or the back? Think I would find a mirror on a stick and check where you think the coolant is coming from. If it looks like coming from behind the fan pully, probably the water pump. Pressurizing it might help also. I have had water pumps that would leak when the motor was either hot or cold and not leak when they changed temps. Good luck with it, Arne.

If it's that minor of a leak just keep an eye on it until it gets bad enouugh to see where it is.

Just for giggles, make sure the bolts on your water pump are tight, as well as the bolts for the thermostat housing.

Front of the engine. Looked at it today with it running, but it was cold and windy and eventually the cold one before I found it.
I think I might have a mirror on a stick. I'll check it out more as it warms up.

If it is more of a seep, it could very well be lower intake manifold gaskets.

I wondered about the lower intake gasket but thought I would see some pooling around the intake?
Either tomorrow or Thursday I'm going to try to take a look at it with it warm and see if I see anything. If not then next time I get a day off I'll start taking it apart and see if I can find it.

Regarding pooling around the intake... that can only happen from a upper rad or thermostat hose. You can't pool on top of the engine because that's the top of the lower intake manifold, where the coolant flows through. The leak would be below that.

I also have been successful in using UV dye for leak checking, although I usually only need the pressure tester. I finally purchased one of the all-aluminum radiators and the next time I have a leaky radiator it goes in, at which time I'll buy another for the other Gen1 'ex. (With my luck the next leak will be in the engine...)
