For a while, I've been having problems producing power from my 4.0L OHV. Even when floored, it would only reach 3300 RPMs and then slam down to about 2400, not a very wide range of RPMS. It would accelerate quickly, but there was no throaty sound, nor was there the type of "throw me back in my seat" response that I so desired...I was kind of disappointed.
That is, until I figured out the problem. After searching the engine and checking my vacuum, I finally discovered the problem...my floor mats.
Yeah, me in my infinite wisdom (dripping with sarcasm) decided to get wayyyyyyy oversized car mats from pep boys (there's my first mistake
) and it turns out the mat was bunching up behind the accelerator. So, I took out my floor mats and tested my 4.0L today and what a world of difference. On flooring, it revved up to 4600RPMs and got up to 66 mph on first gear (is that good???). Anyway, I was very impressed with the engine, but very depressed with my investigative skills.
At least bruised egos are free to repair.
