hello i have a 94 X sport on 30's and i was wondering what is the cheapest and safest way to get like an inch or two. perferably two inches of lift. And my four wheels drive doesnt seem to be locking up when i put it in. when i give it gas in the mud it makes i high pitch winding sound then cracks really lout. someone told me to take the rim off and clean it out and then grease it again. if anyone can help me that would be great.

A cheap and safe way to get around 1.5" of suspension lift is to use lift shackles on the rear and F150 coil seats/spacers on the front. A search on these will give you lots of info on them.
For the 4 wheel drive question, I would start with pulling both front tires and inspecting the hubs. There should be no grease on the hubs, the parts should just be soaked in tranny fluid for lube, assuming it still has the auto hubs. You may find the hubs have already grenaded (blew up). A Haynes manual is a very good source on how to do this.

does anyone else have any more comments on this

94 auto hubs not locking for me either. Took them off and cleaned with paint thinner and still no front lock. You can hear and feel the difference in gears when you go into low but the front axle just does nothing as far as pulling goes! Replaced hubs from another 94 and same thing, no 4 wheel drive. I am at a loss since I can feel it go into 4 low and the difference in gearing.
Someone told me they need to have some spring tension, they are off of the spindle slightly? Mine have none and I am not sure why? Might be time to spend the bucks for manual hubs?

Open to any ideas on this??
