I had a freeze plug develop a leak the other day. I got the old one out and bought a new one. I got a metal one, the rubber ones seem to be hard to install, cant get them to fit in to get them to seat to tighten them. The one that is giving me the problem is one the front on the passenger side. Ive removed the fender liner I didnt remove the wheel was hoping to be able to get it back in with out having to go thru all that. My question is will one of the freeze plug installation tools allow me to get the freeze plug installed?

Thanks in advance...

In my experience, the rubber expansion type are the best bet when trying to install in an engine that's still in the vehicle...

I bought one of those and I cant get it to go in. Seems like its a little too big for the replacement. Thats why I bought one of the metal ones. And I cant seem to get the angle to get a good hit to install it.

many people stick the rubber ones in, but if possible the metal ones are best. if you can find one made of brass, that's even better as it will last forever. if you have the room to use an installation tool that's the best way to install them. sometimes a large socket will work, but the tool is better. tip: put some sealant (I like red RTV) on the edges of the plug to prevent any chance of leaking.

Well come to find out the first rubber plug I bought was too big. So I got another one it went right in tightened it down and no leaks since Ive refilled it and pressurized the system. So Ill take it for now until I get ready to sell it or rebuild it. Thanks for all the help and advice.
