Frick, removing t-stat bolts?

Try Loctite "Freeze and Release". Spray it on for 5-10 seconds; it cools the bolt to -45, it shinks it and breaks the corrosion seal. Costs about $10-15 Product code LB-15002-1
Mean spray it inside on the bolt part left? It wouldn't harm the intake manifold? I'm still taking it to the shop so I'll ask them if they'll use that to help. I just don't have the time or patience to start taking everything back off and trying to drill the bolt out.

Towed it over there today to friends shop. Said he doesn't know why, but he constantly has Ford trucks and vehicles coming in with broken bolts like in the t-stat. Makes us wonder if Ford even used any anti seize product from the factory. He did two F-150s this week with broken t-stat bolts.

see it all the time on forums with the 4.6L motors.

Friend did it, total damage was about $450 but I had them do other stuff I didn't get to when this happened. Took just over 4 hours to get the bolt out safely without damaging the intake manifold, he said that was about the worst he's seen. And I'm not surprised, the piece I had that broke off you could tell was completely frozen to the aluminum, and I've never seen a bolt break like mine did, looked like it was sheared straight down by a cleaver. Penetrating oil sat for 2 days, and still took heat and slow drilling so the threads are good. He wasn't sure if he'd be able to do it without pulling the intake manifold but he did, as 1st couple attempts to get it out were not happening, that **** was in there.

He said he always has Fords coming in, more than any other make, for frozen bolts (and we're in South FL its not like we deal with rust and weather like up north). We think Ford doesn't use any anti-seize on any bolts. One of the track cars we had was an old Porsche and when sold it had about 130K hard miles on it, and had no problem with some of the original parts and bolts.

Picked her up today, everything a-ok. Warms up quickly and maintains temp better than before. That Motorad Fail Safe thermostat is a good piece. And yes, anti-seize used on the t-stat bolts....I'm guessing Fords bean counters decided they could save money somewhere:rolleyes:
