For starters, ive got gear whine out the wahzoo from my front axle. As i am awd, im in a hard place. Is there ANYTHING i can use to quiet her up?

The kicker is, ive got my 4:56 axle from my 4wd ex (in the shed). Someone stole my rear axle. Now another question is If i lock the actuator fork in place would it be safe to use for awd? Also with that being said would the gears have to be set up differently to be used 100% of the time?

I know the 4wd axle is live 100% by drivers wheel, but thats wheel propeled and playing catch up when disengaged vs being driven by the D-shaft

Bottom line is i want to get rid of as much of the whine as possible as a bandaid but also want to swap gears in once i build another rear. being that i have a front axle all setup id like to utilize it

You could try friction modifier, might work.

Not sure what you mean by the shift fork. AWD t-case doesn't have a shift fork. You could convert over to locking hubs, and a part time 4wd t-case. And no, the gears are the same for AWD and 4wd.

What i meant by fork was the actuator in the front axle. Being currently awd i was thinking if locking it in place to simulate the solid awd housing.

Thats what I wasn't sure about. If you have a 5.0 you shouldn't have a front axle disconnect.

Right. My other ex was 4.0 4wd. Thats where the axle is from

For the AWD to work would have to have matching front and rear gears & tires. First step is drop the front driveshaft and run as 2wd rear to see if gear noise abates. If yes, you can very likely drive it safely this way until you have both axles matched up.

If the noise is still there, swapping in the axle and running it without the front shaft is probably the safest way to go. Since the TC will be turning both axles full time, any difference in rotation speeds/resistance will end up with binding and potential damage.

Oh im certain the diff is shot, the diff has NEVER serviced by previous owners. All the tires and ratios do match. I was more less wondering when i build another rear if i could make the 4wd housing work by making the actuator fork stationary. Id pull the driveshaft and cvs and leave outter cvs in just to get rid of the noise for now but i like the truck to remain in park, not wander off freely. I originally changed out the fuid by suction, not by pulling the cover (in truck). Than after i filled her up, all the seals let loose.
