Front crossmember part No

Hey guys,

Thanks for interest in this thread! I’m from the UK , so the carparts.com website doesn’t show for me. What part is it??? I’d interested in buying rather than having to do this prosess as on another Explorer.

Scrapyard findings are hard to come by here that are in good condition due to infamous Blighty weather. This is my progress so far, it’s a bit crusty down there :/.

I may go down fabricated steel bumper after I have replaced this support somehow?

Thank you for insights fellas I’m pretty novice and you are guys are invaluable.

Cheers

Mark

Damn, beat me

Yeah Mark, you will have to shop around for the best shipping cost and total to the UK. It will require welding to change that, and cutting off a couple dozen spot welds. So also find a quality spot weld cutter. A cheap one you will hate and likely toss and buy another version. If you get a good cutter, you can drill out the welds without a lot of cussing. But it will take quite a while, it's tedious to drill out spot welds and break the left over part loose at each one. Go slow to get used to how that is done, it takes a little practice. The install is opposite, lock the new piece into place at the weld locations, adjust to be perfect, and then weld in all of the holes. Grind the remaining weld surfaces created, and paint over that with very good paint.

I think shipping and tax and duty maybe prohibitive. It’s the part can be had for $100 however shipping alone is ranges from $250-$450 exclusive of additional taxes and duty.

I’ll have search and think , it maybe better to remove the lower support section and weld a crossmember straight across. I’ll speak to some welders too

Ouch, that does make the used market look more attractive, and see what is within a close distance to drive to. Removing the radiator support from an Explorer in a yard would take some time. The parts up front all bolt to it, and then you'd be using a sawzall to cut the inner fenders next to it.

Sherman Parts SHE584A-49 seems to be getting the most stock levels

RepairLinkShop is a great place to lookup part #'s. Just make sure to select a local dealership and the service will let you drill down into that brand of vehicles. Also, the best $35 I ever spent was for a shop manual on eBay for my '04 Eddie Bauer - I got the huge manual and the electrical system manual - like an 8" stack.
