2001 Sport Trac
Hello

I have a 2001 Sport Trac and I changed the bearings, hub, rotor and pads on both sides as well as the ABS sensors. The passenger side front brakes work as intended, the driver side however makes a grinding noise and the brake pedal shakes / resists when applying the brakes, not the pulsing you would experience when ABS kicks in. After a couple of attempts to use the brakes the ABS light comes on and the brakes work just fine, no grinding noise, no shake or resistance on the brake pedal. I'm desperate to get this fixed and at a loss why they work when ABS light comes on.

2WD or 4WD?

Jack the driver's side tire just off the ground and grab it at 3 and 9 then 12 and 6 and try to wiggle it. If there's any perceptible play then the bearings on that side are not installed correctly and this may cause the wheel and rotor wobble, drag on the brake caliper and confuse the ABS sensor.

What procedure and torque did you use when replacing the wheel bearings?

I've had the the anti-rattle clips for the brake shoes off-center a tiny bit. When the rotor got hot and expanded slightly it dragged on the clips making a horrible grinding sound, but that wouldn't effect your braking or ABS. Usually when your hearing a grinding you'll find witness marks on something. Check your work.
