Front End Damage/Accident

Amazing how much repairs cost these days.

My wife did some front end damage to her CX9 a few winters back and the body shop we brought it to(our family knows the place all too well) had a check box on one of the forms asking if used parts were acceptable. A simple check in the “No” box and all was good. I don’t remember if it stated OE parts, but it came back looking real pretty. Her's looked a lot worse than yours and was "only" in the $6k range.

That was the first thing I checked on the estimate they are using brand-new parts from the dealership where I purchased the car probably why it's more expensive

Your looking at about 9k
amcberetta.....Without having any idea s to the extent of the damage since the hood cannot be raised, it would be foolish to even speculate on the cost to repair it.

The fact that you can't raise the hood generally tells you a lot about the damage. My (not working in a body shop) guess was gonna be 8500, which I see was a little low:

I got a call this afternoon from the repair shop. The Ex has about $10K worth of damage, including the front rail frames.

THIS BLIND SQUIRREL HAS A BROTHER WHO OWNS A HIGH END BODY SHOP AND I DO ESTIMATES FOR HIM....NOW WHAT amcberetta HAS TO BE CAREFUL IS THAT THE SHOP USES OEM PARTS MANY INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE APPROVING AFTER MARKET PARTS YOU HAVE TO DEMAND THAT THEY USE OEM..... O. I FORGOT I'M A BLIND SQUIRREL...LOL
P.S THERE ARE ALWAYS UNFORESEEN PARTS NEEDED, THEY WON'T KNOW UNTIL THEY START TO TAKE THE EX APART.... BODY SHOP NAME IS ART AUTO BODY IN NYACK NY....GOOGLE IT. HERE I'LL MAKE IT EASIER. http://www.artautobodyny.com WHEN YOU CLICK ON THE LINK THEN CLICK CONTACT US THAT IS ME (THE BLIND SQUIRREL ) ON THE RIGHT WITH THE NOTE BOOK ON HAND.

So based on the new info from amcberretta...your estimate was off by almost 28%!........your brother might want to look for a replacement blind squirrel that has a better notebook and calculator.......right now he's loosing a lot of money.:D

Actually, I think the $10K is lower than I expected. We have a company Explorer that hit a deer sitting in our parking lot with what looks like a lot less damage than yours, and the estimate was $8700.

hughcares. Let me tell you how smart you are. We had not even seen the car i was going by the pictures, so to be that close was a good guess... So stop your tit for tat and grow up. This site is not for insults etc..... I said what i said after you started with the childish disrespect. The important thing here is that she is ok and her caris getting fixed. Peace......

My next concern is what to do after the Ex is repaired an the insurance settles up with me. Do I unload it and get another Ex or do I keep it and hope for the best? If it were just my wife and I would probably keep it. However, we do have two small children, and that's what makes me worried. The repair shop I used does top notch work, I've used them in the past for minor issues. However, since the integrity of the structure has been altered i.e (bent frame rails) that's were my concern lies. I hope don't sound crazy for thinking this! I do have access to the Ford X Plan thru my employer which is nice. Just wanted to hear other folks opinions/ideas on this. Thanks.

I would definitely unload it and go for an new one. A wrecked car is never as good as it was before, even if it is only in your mind. You seem to be leaning that way, so you aren't going to be satisfied with it. Go ahead and trade it in.
