Front end noise; Please help

Technically, it is a center differential with limited slip provided by a vascous coupler. Very different in functionality from a straight transfer case.

The front/rear differentials do the same thing (transfer power to the wheels), but you don't call them transfer cases.

I'm very well aware of what it is and how it works. Technically, it is still a transfer case, and it is called a transfer case.
