Howdy,

I am new to the forum and am trying to replace the driver side front wheel hub on a 2005 Explorer 4WD. I have the three hub nuts loose and out, but the hub will NOT slip off the drive shaft. I've tried an axle puller and a couple of whacks with a dead blow hammer but I'm reluctant to get real physical with it for fear of damaging it. It has anti-locks. Does this have anything to do with it? Anyone else ever have this problem? If so, then please tell me how to get this thing off!

Some have had this problem. Mine broke free pretty easily with a few taps of a hammer (padded with a wood block).

Most recommend using a gear/axle puller that applies force to the axle, pushing it in, and most do not recommend banging on it too hard (as you pointed out).

You might also try heat and penetrating fluid.

Got It!

Hey thanks for the reply, I tried the penetrating fluid and a three jaw puller and she slid right off! She's back together and sounding MUCH better!!

outstanding.

BTW, grew up just down the road from Jessamine County. Howzit in KY?
