Well, my wifes 02 Explorer was making a rotational noise over the weekend, so I put all new brake components on. Still got the noise, dealer says both front and rear driverside bearings are shot.

After doing some searching, this looks to be a normal issue:mad:

I will be replacing the fronts myself since it's a whole hub assembly, but I'm having them fix the driverside rear. Do you all recommend fixing these in pairs? The fronts will be done as pairs, but I don't know if I should get the passenger side rear done while it's in.

Any tips on doing the fronts?

i'd suggest doimg them in pairs just for sake of mind.

I figure, you do your brakes in pairs, rotors in pairs; do the bearings in pairs.

I replaced my fronts in chasing a ABS light problem. I also heard some noise but it wasn't loud. Once out and turning by hand the Left was bad for sure, the Right seemed OK and i could run it for a while.
There is no problem doing one side, other than the piece of mind and the Extra $$$, but it really didn't need to be replaced - imo. Now that both are in there is a little piece of mind in having done both pairs and my wallet is lighter too.

On replacing them yourself it isn't a big deal if you have GOOD compressed air and strong impact. I got 2 out of the 3 out, but the last one . . .over an hour later i got it half way but after that it wouldn't budge, i had to take it in to finish.

Thanks for the advise. No pneumatics in the garage, so it will be brute strength:p:

Gotta pick up a puller, breaker bar, and oversided socket (seems the common size is 36mm).

no puller needed for me, just grab the BFH and whack away!

i just did my fronts, if you can get some heat, that makes things alot easier.

be sure to clean everything up after you get the bearing out, and then i like to grease everything up to protect from corrosion
