I saw the page on removing front rotors. Does this apply to all years or certain ones? I never have worked on 4wd stuff before. How involved is it to get the front rotors off ? i am going to try it sat. It is a 4wd 1994 Explorer. is there clips and springs going to fly everywhere? help

I haven't done any brake work on my Explorer yet but the best thing to do is go buy a Haynes Repair Manual. They aren't expensive and they are based on a complete tear down and rebuild. I had one for my last car and for my Explorer and it tells you step by step exactly what to do to repair anything.

94 XLT with autohubs is real easy to take off. I did it without a manual by just thinking as I went. I had done GM mauals hubs before, though. The Ex auto-hub contains the 4by works and they come off with it. Therefroe it boils down to a simple tapered wheel bearing project. Go for it.

You may want to buy a CHILTONS manual...Or maybe I can dig my Haynes manual out of the trash and send it to you...heh heh

Easy...

I is very easy, but I would still recommend a Haynes or Chilton for the torque spec and other. In gross it goes like this: secure the side your working on jackstand, pull of wheel(maybe the auto hub will come off), slide off autohub assembly if not alreay done, tap the olding pins out of the caliper(both), attach caliper so it does not break the brake line, get out the slide pin(inside the lock nut, look into the groove), unscrew the lock nut(with break bar or big channel plier if nuts is not stuck), wiggle the disc to get out the bearing inside the center of the rotor, pull out the disc. Reassembly is backward but you have to repack the bearing, cheak seals and torque spec that I dont remember(the manual is for that). Enjoy your day of work.

It is a relatively easy job. Don't do what I did though. Make sure you torque the wheel bearing nut properly or you will end up having to replace your wheel bearings. That turned out to cost me an extra $120. Go and buy yourself the proper tools and you will be very happy.

P.S.- Bryan, where are you in Columbus?

A guy at the brake and muffler shop I know did the work for me,while I was at work . They said all the 4wd guts had to come out. Now that you guys mention it , Ihope they put the proper torque on the wheel bearing nut. Sanchez I am on the west side of columbus. Oh yea the new rotor came with all new studs, does this sound right for all 1994s? Thanks to all for your help.
