I believe it is a stud. Look on the back side and if theres a head try to unbolt it. If theres no head it should hammer out unless it has been welded. I haven't personally had to replace this so I'm not 100% sure. I have seen somewhere on here where someone broke it just like you have and replaced it with a grade 8 bolt. Like I said though, I do believe it is a stud. I just went out and looked at my rangers and theres no head so it is a stud. Welded in or not I do not know.

If it were me and theres no head I would just hit it since you already broke it :D

Dorman makes a replacement lower shock mount and there are a few threads on here about replacing broken shock mounts

I read those threads and didnt quite understand why they where replacing them it sounded like once they broke they where broke but that wasnt the answer i wanted but as you know sometimes you canwack a stud pretty hard and they wont budge so i was looking for a definate answere but thanks for checking yours i forgot to mention its a 92 explorer

Everything in that thread is spot on for a 1st gen X. It's a pressed in stud that will need to be drilled out & replaced once broke. There's no way your hammering a 19+ year old pressed in rusted weathered stud out.

Here's another with pics found at the bottom in "Similar Threads".

Ya i read that shows how to cut it and replace it but i was wondering if they where studs or bolts there i would rather try to salvage the stock stuf if possible seems i got my answere a blow torch and hammer and if that doesnt work then drill it out and find a stud that will work

It sounds like you it right. Stock, it was a stud that must be ground/cut/drilled or something similar to get out.

You can be replacement bolt on lower studs for cheap.

I have never seen a replacement stud or heard of someone finding something to use as a replacement stud that pressed in.

Of course, the other option is to grab another RA arm if you are really against the bolt on lower shock mount. You can find them pretty cheap from people who have installed extended radius arms but the shipping usually makes it cost prohibitive. I used locktite on my bolt on replacment shock mount and never had an issue. If you really wanted to go nuts you could always use green locktite (sleeve sealer). That will never let go.

ok now i see why people cut it off lol ive drilled out 66% of it and it still wont budge the back of it is kinda rounded off like a pin of some sort not your average stud

Grind it flush and then drill. Bolt in one of the Dorman shock mount stud replacements like mentioned above and call it a day.
