I'm trying to get the front springs off my X to replace them with the 2" lifted ones. After the pain of getting the 12 year old rusted on nut off the spring, I lowered the axel as far as it will go & the spring will not come out over the stud. I tried using a pry bar to lift the spring over the stud, & it's not working. I tried rotating the spring out of the top mount & that's not working. I can get it almost off then it stops right at the end of the spring. I also broke my lower shock mount "see 911 post". I had no idea this was going to be so problmatic. I should have just spent the $425 & had the shop do the whole lift :(

Did you disconnect or remove the swaybar and shocks?

Shocks. Didn't move the swaybar. The hayes manual says I don't need to.

You could've taken the stud out as well and slide the coil out but that doesn't help you when you go to put on the new coils. Since the new coils are longer you will have to disconnect the sway bar and shocks so you can completely drop the beams out of the way.

So I need to take off the sway bar? Do I also need to take the tires off both sides? I only had the side I was doing off. That side was up on a jack stand pretty high & my jack was under the axle. I ran into the shock problem & said forget it for today. I'm too pissed off.

You need to have the jack or jackstand supporting the frame. That will let the axle drop down plenty far enough, assuming you have discoed the shock and swaybar, and have the tire off.

I had the jack stand under the frame rail. I'll disconnect the sway bar & see if that helps tomorrow.

Oh yeah... Do I need to take the brake caliper off. I did have it off, just wondering if I really needed to take it off, & hang it out of the way.

Yeah, it's best to take the caliper off. You don't want to risk snapping the brakeline.

Also, tomorrow before you get the old spring out, note the position where the end of the coil seats on the top mount. You want to put the new spring in the same position.
