front suspension bent

i got in an accident yesterday with my 93 X, and i've bent something in the front end...i've gots a lot of negative camber on both sides, and the left front it toed out big time, so iw as wondering if anyone know what the weak point in the front end or if anyone has has any expierence with breaking/bending somethign in the front end...i have pics if anyone wants to see it

...and i know this is a explorer forum but let's be easyyyy now... an ex could never easily tare up a jeep on the trails, but with a solid front axle... it could hang a little better with one at least.. HAHA jk sorry, ya hit a soft spot!! I've always been a jeep (Just Empty Every Pocket) enthusiest.. but i still love my ex! sorry to jump in on your thread, lol anyways I look forward to what you find out, because your problem is almost identicle to mine and i've yet to figure it out yet.

what did you hit or go over to mess up the front end ?

i swerved off the road to avoid rearending a mazda, i went into the ditch and basically used a driveway as a launch ramp, and i guess when i bottomed it out i bent something, or several somethings....it was.....thrilling

Glad you had a fun ride, sorry it ended up screwing the truck. The only thing that adjusts toe is the tie rod. So check that. As far as camber. . . you just need to look. Axle pivot brackets, radius arm brackets, radius arms, axle support beams, maybe you just nocked the camber adjusters loose and an alignment is all you need.

My main wheeling buddy used to drive a 94 heep wrangler lifted 9". My X with 5" lift got through more trails.

Take the dirt road that starts near Mtn Lake that goes up to the old 50' fire tower atop Butt Mtn (amazing overlooks, stupid name). Then continue NE on the jeep trail and take it all the way to Wind Rock (another amazing view right on the WVa border). Then head E/SE back to Mtn Lake.

Go buy an Atlas and Gazeteer. I'll look up mine and give you road numbers and quadrants.

That was probably my favorite trail. If it hasn't rained a whole lot a super stocker could get through. If you're totally stock you'd definately want to go with people as it can get pretty greasy/slick back there near Wind Rock.

$144 and a a long days work, and the X is back, good as new...you gotta love the junkyard

Glad to hear you got it figured out! what all did ya have to replace? I have a similar front end problem, can't figure it out... just wondering what ya had to fix so i can give it a look on my ex.. thanks, Mike

as far as suspension i bent the radius arm bracket so i had to replace that and then get an alignment
so if i were you i would check the brackets and everything...basically get under the truck and just start looking and see what u can find that might be bent

might be bent or broken coils...jack it up by the bumper...if the wheels straiten then ta da problem solved.the reason the wheels are toed out is because the suspension is compressed. if thats not it it could be ur i beam brackets..

yeah i bent the hell out of the bracket, and it was kinda strange that after i replaced the bracket on the left side, it actually fixed most of the problem with the camber on both sides, so the only thing i could figure is that it was putting so much pressure on the entire front suspension that it was causing all kinds of problems
then i just took it to get an alignment and then it was perfect, or as perfect as a 93 X can be

just wondering what all cost $144. I hope you didn't pay that much for a single junkyard/used radius arm bracket? just wondering as the brackets brand new are very cheap. just looking out for ya..

edit: kind of besides the subject but i was curious, is all that body damage ya have there from the incident(fender, etc) from just bottoming out hard?

i spent the $144 on everything...fender, headlight, steering box, radius arm bracket, and allignment...and the fender was matching color, i got lucky

and the body damage from from where i smacked into a maxda protege and then took out a mailbox

I'm assuming the "thrilling" part was bouncing off the Mazda, not wiping out the mailbox?
