I hope this is not a repost as I did try searching and couldn't find the exact problem I am having.
I have had my Explorer since 2006. It is a good vehicle and all, but there has been a few nagging problems it has had since I bought it and that have developed.
The two things I am having issues with are the following:
1) The fuel gauge does not work properly. When I bought it (used) the gauge did not work. The dealership I bought it from paid for the repair and it partially works now. The gauge moves very quickly and when it gets to 1/4th of a tank the needle will not move any farther. They have replaced everything but the gauge itself (pump, sender unit, wiring etc.). I have to guess when I need fuel which is usually around 240 miles on the trip meter as I do a lot of in-town commuting every day.
2) I noticed a metal clanking noise coming from the front end a few weeks ago, but it was very random when it would do it. I checked everything and all was well. The noise started getting worse and worse and finally I found a big enough jack, lifted it up and started playing with everything I could. Turns out the sway bar end mounts are all but gone. The mounts on the frame are fine, but where the ends of the sway bars attach to the mounts the bolts are gone and so are the bushings. Because of this my front passenger tire has some negative camber and is wearing very quickly on the inside and the brakes on the front are wearing out very quickly as well.
I have found parts kit that "should" fix the end mounts for the sway bar, but I can't find any PDF repair manuals so I can verify the parts needed. Here's the repair kit I have found: Click me!
I hope that will fix the sway bar issue as this is very annoying. Anytime I hit a bump in the road or run over an ant the sway bar bounces around and makes a ton of noise. I am wanting to get this resolved to eliminate un-needed wear on my tires and and any futher damage to the sway bar itself. If anyone can let me know if that parts kit will do what I need and if anyone has any other details about my fuel gauge issue please let me know!!
Thanks ahead of time for the replies!
