Hi From Down Under
Can someone tell me if the front speed sensor and the speedo drive are the same thing on my 1997 xlt 4.0l shoc auto .
As its allways jumping into 4wd on good road surfaces .
Thanks
All four tyres are the same size and yes its happends on the highway and around town ,but mostly overnight when i first reverse out of my driveway as its a sharp turn onto the road.

As I understand it, the control-trac 4 wheel drive will automatically engage when it senses a difference in wheel speed -- like when some wheels are spinning if you are stuck. Sounds like this is happening to you on the highway. You don't have different sized tires on front and back, do you? I can see that causing a problem. Other than that, I can't help you. Sorry!
