I know there are many posts on this board regarding changing out wheel bearings, but I can find any detailed information out there regarding the actual procedure (aside from the fact that there are 3 bolts holding the part on and it is easy enough to do yourself).
I have almost 84k miles on my ST and am starting to have a significant humming noise between 40-75MPH, so I think it is time to replace the bearing(s).. Does anyone have access to the service manual that details this procedure - mainly things like torque specs, if any other lubrication is necessary..etc.? Any detailed experieces would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You did not say front or rear, but since you mentioned 3 bolts, that would mean front. I have done mine 4 times already on my 06 Eddie bauer. 4 times because 2 times I used cheap staff from ebay made in China and they lasted about few days, get Timken from ebay. I do not have tourqe specs, but from what I recall:

Engage the parking brake.
Break loose the wheel nuts just a little.
Remove the center axle nut, I believe it's 35 mm or 32.
Jack the car, support it on a stand (I use pieces of 6x6 lumberstacked up, somehow I do not trust jack stands).
Remove the wheel.
Remove the 2 bolts holding the caliper, remove the caliper, pads and hang it using a piece of wire.
Remove the 2 bolts and remove the caliper bracket.
Disconnect the ABS wire.
Remove the 3 bolts holding the hub bearing assembly to the knuckle, you will need to turn the wheel left and right to access all 3.
Use axle puller to separate the axle from the hub.

Put it back together is the reverse order.

I am using a cheap electric 110v impact gun and it helps a lot.

If I missed some step, other members - please correct me.

Forgot the brake discs! ;)

I was hoping they would just fall off by themselves :)

Good catch Lukas.

Thanks

how is the rear procedure different? i've done front. haven't even looled at the rear.

In the rear you need to remove the main brakes, e-brakes, and remove completely the knuckle so you can put it on the press and replace the bearing.
