Front Wheel Well Liners

I am going to be changing my plugs and wires soon and I was looking in the wheel wells for access. How do you guys get those liners out? I tried pulling them out and they are on there pretty damn good.

I don't want to damage them, and I do want to put them back on when I'm done.

IF you're talking about the plastic/rubber things you just yank, REALLY hard. I just took mine off to do my ball joints. They are only attached with plastic push-retainers.

I changed my plugs and wires a month or so ago, and I didn't bother going thru the wheel wells. I was able to get them all from the top side.

My 89 Ranger was more difficult to change the plugs (2.9L) than the OHV Explorer, IMO.

All you need is a nice collection of 3/8 drive extensions including a very short one for the plug back by the A/C unit.

I'm going to try them from the top first, I was just making sure on the wheel wells just in case.

My plug socket allows for the use of a combo wrench, so I might try that for the back plug, or most of the plugs on the passenger side. My wires are also routed through in the intake, oh joy.

What kind of gapper did you use? All the gappers from my local parts stores suck. They wire type don't even go to .054, only to .050

I just used a normal flat blade feeler gauge, stacking two leafs together to get the correct measurement. I didn't need to change the gap, but I checked them all anyway just to be sure. I bought the Motorcraft Double Platinum Plugs, and they were all pre-gapped.

They were pre-gapped to .054? I didn't think Motorcraft pre-gapped thier plugs. The guy from Autozone wrote .050 on the box, which is wrong.

I bought them at the Ford dealer (cha-ching!$$$) and they were pre-gapped.

Hmm, thanks for the info. I'll have to check them, hopefully they are pre-gapped. I will look around more for a gapper, it's not like they are rare.

Mine are also Double Platinums, AGSF-22-PPM Stock 605PPM. Were yours the same number?

Yep, those are my plugs. Whooo hooo.

I got mine at Autozone for $3.99/plug.

Hmmmm, I just checked my plugs and they were not pre-gapped. I was using a wire type gapper. It sure is a PITA to regap these things to .054. Look me like 20 minutes to get them right. Even then I don't think they are perfect.
