Hi guys hows it going? Ive been noticing with my 2003 FORD EXPLORER 4.6 V8 my gas has been sucking up quite fast.

I filled it all the way up last night till it stopped turned the key on shows FULL shows 520km to E had to do some erands had the A/C on very low because I heard AC Can really suck up GAS and I was doing mostly highway driving

This morning woke up had to go somewhere and the fuel guage needle has already moved away from the FULL SIGN I checked and it showed 471 to E

Is that preety normal or can my FUEL GUAGE be acting up?

Its been great all year never had an issue with the SUV except over these past couple of hot days here in Canada.

Let me know what you guys think before I take it in to have a mechanic check it out dont want to waste any of my money

You should actually calculate your fuel mileage and see what comes of it.

Ok Josh any ideas how I can calculate it if you dont mind me asking im not a big car expert any help would be appreciated :)

You can calculate MPG by

1 - fill tank up
2 - reset trip odometer
3 - drive
4 - fill tank up make note of how much gas went in
5 - divide how much gas went in tank by how far your tip odometer says you went.

example:

You went 300 miles (what the trip odometer says) and it took 15 gallons to fill it back up.

300/15=20

So you would be getting 20mpg

tower covered the math. It is km per gallon, so you record the km you travel, fill up, and divide the km by the number of gallons it took to travel that distance.

Be sure to emphasis to us that you are in Canada, since you have a different gallon than we do as well as being in kilometers and not miles...otherwise you may be getting some really strange suggestions!

Um, that would be litres, not gallons... :D

......... I heard AC Can really suck up GAS..

Dont worry about this, if its hot, use the AC as required, its driving with windows open that will make a bigger difference to fuel consumption.

As per the other suggestions, track the fuel milage correctly first to see exactly what your consumption is. Ideally, you should try to get baseline measurements for both city and highway driving. I.E - do a fillup calculation where you have only done highway driving on that tank, and do another fillup calculation when you have only been doing city driving on that tank.

No, it would be the imperial gallon versus the US gallon. That would be ~4.5 liters as opposed to the US gallon at ~3.8L.

Thanks boys I appreciate it I'm going to be keeping an eye on it

Sorry I forgot to mention I'm from Canada

Don't apologize for something you didn't do. You did mention in your original post that you are in Canada, see your OP quote below:

You also mentioned in your OP, that you are using Kilometers(KM) and not miles, see your OP quote below:
