You need to buy a set of fuel filter removal tools. I got mine at "Discount Auto Parts" for $9.99 for a set of six sizes. They look like white plastic bushings with a split in the side. Use the 3/8" size and just slide it into the duck bill connector and filter will easily pull out. Make sure to relieve the pressure from the gas cap and fuel rail shrader valve.
I changed mine, it was a pain in the butt at first but once you figure it out, it is really easy, the biggest hurdle is realizing that the tool has unlocked the coupler and you need to pull the fuel line away, it doesn't really give you the feel that it unlocked the coupler.
Bought a set of those white nylon tools for about $9
Take it to Big-O or wherever and get reamed for $80 labor. I broke 2 tools trying to do this myself and gave up. I had my wife, who had the x that day, take the filter in and have them put it in. I about crapped when she said it was $80. In hindsight it should have taken to a mechanic I personally know.
