After reading about the hassels of changing my Ex's fuel filter, I think I will have it done by a pro. Any idea what this will cost me?

Once you have the coupling tool, its not that difficult.

Took me 15 minutes from start to finish.

I was the one who complained that it was a PITA. After a failed attempt to throw beer to a Ford tech, I broke down, bought the tool $10 and did it myself. no mess, no worries, and I felt great since I did it myself and save a TON of $$$

The dealership is going to charge you a FULL hour for something that will take them 10 minutes on a lift. Why give away your hard earned $$$ ???

I put mine on ramps, layed down some cardboard, and did mine real quick.

You can do it, just get the plastic clips.

I need not the hassel of this engineering fiasco, hence, I had my local Jiffy Lube replace the filter for me during an oil change ( Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter ). They charged me $43.95 for the filter and install.

What have others paid?

$7 for filter and $10 for tool. 15 minutes of my time = $17

Experience, various types, are indeed valuable; however, experience does not put the groceries on the table. Time=money, a basic fact of life.

I have a question for you guys. How often should the fuel filter be changed and where abouts is it located? I have a 95' and it has not been changed for a long time.

Thanks
Brian

I don't know about the interval, but it's probably a 60,000mile thing. It's under the truck near the rocker panel, and just below the front passenger. It's covered by a skid plate that will need removal first.

i just bought a filter yesterday, and it says on the box they should be changed every 10k.. i dunno bout that, but it says it.

Thanks guys for your replys. Looks like mine is going to get changed this weekend.

According to Chilton's Manual
"The inline reservoir type fuel filter should last the life of the vehicle under normal driving conditions."
Do all Xs have the inline reservoir type fuel filter?

let me just tell you. that was an annoying job but i did it. I releaved all the pressure but still got a good bit of gasoline on me.

My local ford dealer charged me $19.78 for filter, and $17.50 for labor.

I don't know about time, but I think the ultimate satisfaction is knowing you can do it yourself and maybe saved a few bucks while doing it. I agree that experince is priceless too and that is why this board is here and is the best, so we can help each other out.

My time is worth a lot more than that, not to mention my fingernails. I just had mine changed and it cost me $39.95.

hey whatever floats your boat or X in this case

I dont have $39.95 sitting around to spend, thus I did it myself.

difference is what makes the world go round..

I'm sure your glad you finally got it taken care of.
