If you have replaced the fuel filter on an 98 Explorer could you please advise on what you had to do to get the pipe connections apart. I have tried several things after removing the retainer clips. I have even tryed levering with a long blabe screw driver, but have been unable to seperate the connections.

You need a special tool that you can find at te local parts store, I think I paid like $7 for a liitle kit that included some various sizes. Theones I bought were made out of plastic and they slide over the pipe and into the spring loaded clip, then "POP" and its off.

just a quick warning, beware of getting the ol' "gas in the eyes" treatment when changing your fuel filter.
