I finally got my fuel filter switched, fortunately mot much gas came out at all. I did hang a trash bag up between me and the filter anticipating some spray. Considering some of the other stories about changing those things, I figured the trash bag idea might help somebody out. Those spring releases were a pain, but spinning the filter and pressing out from the plastic "V" part eventually got the filter to release. I called the local jiffy lube out of curiosity. They wanted $70 to change the thing!!!

yeah, my f-150 club had a meet a few months back and we changed out 5 fuel filters in about an hour. AT a cost of about $9 per fuel filter, and Ford wanting about $80 to replace it, we saved $70 each, total of $350 in just one hour! Woohoo! :).
In all the vehicle we did, we never pulled the fuel pump fuse, or depressurized the ank with the schroeder (sp?) valve or any of that and I think the worst gas spill we had equaled MAYBE a few tablespoons.

a few tablespoons? even after i depressurized the system i got hosed with quite a bit of gas. that god for full face shields!
