My 97 Ford Explorer Sport (4.0 SOHC EFI) seems like it needs the fuel injectors cleaned. I tried to make an appointment at my local Ford dealership (TCHarrison); however, they said (1) they don't clean injectors and (2) it is not recommended for my vehicle.

Have any of you cleaned/had cleaned your injectors on this model or similar?

I use a fuel tank additive every time I change the oil. B & G makes a good product. There are other products available. Try a different shop not a dealer. You should also replace the fuel filter if you have not already

Thanks. Yeah got the fuel filter all ready to install. I was hoping to get the injectors done then replace that puppy.

Yep, I religiously add fuel injector cleaner once a month at fill-up, to keep them injectors clean. I own the same model engine as yours and you may want to check out the Ford service bulletins that are posted on the NHTSA website - apparently, Ford is aware of some problems with injectors getting clogged - whether it's defective injectors or just a design flaw of the entire fuel system, no one seems to know - but they've been tracking these incidents and if they warrant a service bulletin, then wouldn't you be suspicious, too? I also find it odd that Ford would not recommend a fuel injector servicing - injectors do get clogged over time, and obviously can't hurt whatever poor performance you're experiencing now. Yes, take it to an independent shop and get those injectors cleaned, then keep them clean with some good quality gas like Chevron (with Techron) or Shell (with ProPower), additives which are designed to keep the fuel system foul-free.

I definitely recommend Sea Foam. I just finished a treatment of Sea Foam and cleaned the throttle body and it definitely made a noticeable difference. It feels more powerful through the entire RPM range. I can only say that Sea Foam is an amazing product. I first ran about 1/3 can through the PCV valve hose and dumped the rest into the gas tank. I went and bought 1 more can of the motor treatment and 1 can of Trans Tune, another Sea Foam product. I dumped 2/3 of the Trans Tune into the transmission, and dumped 1/2 of the motor treatment through the PCV valve hose.

Well worth the investment.

Some people have said that they can't find Sea Foam anywhere but I called both a Carquest and a NAPA near me and both of them carried it.

On the subject of; fuel injectors, I have been having some proublems myself ! First off, does anyone know what the spray pattern should look like, on 91 explorer injectors ? My injectors have a four hole pattern and under 35lbs pressurized cleaning, using BG-K44 as the primary cleaner, they dont mist, they make 4 evenly spaced streams ! Should they do this or mist ? Im just not sure ! Secondly, off the subject of injectors, but still in the fuel system. I have a collapsing fuel supply line at the fuel rail, ya know the metal braided ones ! My local FoMoCo dealer checker nation wide and NO ONE had them, there are no auto supply stores that can even get a listing on them, So..............where can I get a new set ? Any and all help with these proublems would be highly appreciated ! Thanx
