Was replacing the Fuel Injector O-Rings on my 1999 Explorer 4.0 OHV. One fell to the ground and broke the plastic tip on the end. I have an old injector I could use but the plastic tip on it spins freely. It's not cracked, is intact and doesn't wobble or otherwise look like it's going to come off. The tips on the new injectors don't budge. Can I use the old injector with the spinning but intact plastic tip? Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

If it's below the o-ring and the center nozzle seems to be held on firmly then I'd suspect it will work, aside from wondering why you have an old one that was possibly rotated out of service for some reason?

I suppose my thinking is that you can either buy a new one or put it back together then buy a new one if it doesn't work. The thing is they're around 65% more expensive at local auto parts stores than at Rock Auto.

I think your talking about the "hat",

Use the injector you dropped but take the hat off the old one and put it on the dropped one,
DO NOT use the old injector!

The hats are ment to come off and on, it's just tight, no problem that it spins as long as it's snapped on the end of injector.

Rockauto the is best price for OE injectors! unless you get a 5 finger discount.

J_C and 97-5.0, Thanks very much for the quick replies and straight answers. Very helpful and much appreciated.
